Davis Mountain Winter Evening by Nelson Sager

Davis Mountain Winter Evening

The cold edge of darkness

cut the sun from out the sky

letting it drop and lie behind

the hills southwest of town.

But that was hours ago, at close

of day, when gray ´segued from

polychrome blend to an end of color—

Then the rise of a pale moon provides

a new palette of ice-white tones,

zones of precise brightness, framed by

tenebrous margins, shadowed edges

of moonlit ridges, boulders, flats, and plateaus,

rocks, brush, and sand that define this land.
