New Texas
a journal of literature & culture · Sul Ross State University
A reading archive of the Sul Ross State University literary journal — poems, stories, and essays first printed and posted in Alpine, Texas, out on the far western edge of the state.
New Texas began as the annual journal of the Center for Big Bend Studies and the English program at Sul Ross State University, gathering new writing from the Trans-Pecos and far beyond. These pages keep its later issues within reach: a contents list, short notes on the writers and the work, and the handful of pieces readers still ask after by name.
The journal printed poetry, short fiction, and critical essays side by side, and it never pretended the distance between Alpine and anywhere else was a disadvantage. What follows is an index to that run, rebuilt from the journal's own web pages so the citations that point here keep landing somewhere real.
